This stock medical exhibit portrays a L4-5 and L5-S1 discectomy and fusion procedure. The first set of three illustrations shows the discectomy procedure. The first illustration in the first set shows an anterior view of the lower abdomen of a caucasian male. Indicated on this illustration are dotted lines for the incision site for the discectomy procedure and the harvest site for bone grafts. The second illustration shows a sagittal view of the lumbar spine. Within this illustation, the disrupted, dehydrated and bulging L4-5 and L5-S1 discs are removed. The third illustration depicts a sagittal view of the lumbar spine. Within this illustration, the interspaces are reamed and titanium cages are filled with bone grafts. They are then placed in the interspaces for fusion of the vertebrae.

The fourth illustration begins the bone graft procedure. Within this illustration, the incision for the bone graft procedure is depicted. In this illustration, the cancellous bone grafts are harvested from the left iliac crest. The fifth illustration shows a sagittal view of the lumbar spine. In this illustration, cancellous bone grafts are packed around the titanium cages. The sixth illustration depicts the post-operative condition of the lumbar spine. In this illustration, the titanium cages and the cancellous bone grafts are shown in the lumbar spine.
