Patent ductus arteriosus is a congenital heart defect. The medical illustration depicts fetal circulation showing the normal flow of blood through the heart and ductus arteriosus in utero. After birth, the exhibit contrasts normal blood flow in an infant with the ductus arteriosus closed off, with a patent ductus.
