Brain Surgery - Surgical Repair of Subdural Hematoma

ID: exh4819b
This series of medical illustrations depicts a surgical repair of a subdural hematoma. In the first drawing, the head of the female figure is partially shaved, and a large curved incision is made into the left side of the scalp. In the second image, the scalp is reflected, and a portion of the skull is removed, exposing the subdural hematoma. Labeled structures in this image include the drill and the skull flap. In the third illustration, the hematoma is evacuated, decompressing the brain. The dura, skull and scalp are then sutured and stapled closed.
