This medical exhibit begins with one sagittal (side cut-away) view of the cervical spine revealing the burst fracture of the C7 vertebral body with retropulsion of the comminuted fragments back into the spinal canal. The key steps of the anterior portions of the surgical decompression and fusion is included in this exhibit. These include the exposure of the anterior cervical spine through an incision in the front of the neck, the removal of the shattered C7 vertebral body, the removal of the intervertebral discs at C6-7 and C7-T1, the harvest of the tricortical bone graft and the anterior fusion from C6 to T1.
